Frequently Asked Questions & Tips for Parents
By enrolling your child in TBR, you are providing a stimulating
musical environment 45 minutes a week. This limited time can be
greatly enhanced by taking the songs and activities home with you
through daily playing of TBR CDs. Enjoy the music and allow your
child to imitate you. Children learn best when they are having fun.
Singing children have singing parents!
Why doesn't my child sing in class?
The magical first years of life are time for musical exploration
and fun. TBR classes are participatory, not demand performances.
Come and enjoy the class without expectations for your child. Children
need to listen and absorb before they can talk or sing. Most children
are naturally shy and prefer to observe in class and try out new
skills at home. If your chilld sings at home, you know learning
is happening!
When
should my child start taking instrumental lessons?
A child is ready to start formal instrumental lessons only after
he/she has developed basic musical competence: the ability to feel
the beat and sing in tune. Raised in a musical environment, this
usually occurs from ages 4-6.
What should I expect of my child in class?
All children need time adjust to a new space, friends and activity.
It often takes 3-4 weeks for a child to warm up and fully relax
in class. Daily listening to the CDs at home will speed the process.
Children enjoy hearing familiar songs. Listening at home enhances
focus in class. Repetition is the magic!
Responses in TBR class vary greatly depending upon age and temperament. Infants are passive learners, absorbing from birth; toddlers learn through active play; 2 - 5 yrear olds begin to display musical competencies as well as enjoy familiar songs. Mixed ages in class are a benefit for all.
TBR respects each child's needs & temperament Shy, active, younger, older, special needs - all are welcome to celebrate the joy of making music together.
